[Watch] Gurnoor Brar gives Ben Duckett a fiery send off in first ODI
Gurnoor Brar finished with 2 for 61 in his nine-over spell.
On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Edgbaston, a heated exchange between Gurnoor Brar and Ben Duckett captured the cricket world's attention. The India pacer and the England opener engaged in a tense confrontation during the opening ODI, with Brar celebrating in the face of his opponent after picking the latter's wicket and giving an aggressive send-off.
The clash drew immediate interest across social media and underscored the raw competitive spirit between the cricketers, yet it served merely as a prelude to the far more significant turn of events that would follow between the two.
England openers Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell put on 61 runs inside 13 overs as the hosts seized early control. The 4-0 drubbing for the visitors in the preceding T20Is came just over a week before, but this contest presented an entirely different test.
Duckett had hit Brar for one boundary and two sixes in his first over. The diminutive left-handed batter followed it up with two more boundaries in Brar's second over. A change of ends proved to be fruitful for the Gujarat Titans' speedster.
The right-armer Brar struck twice in the same over, removing both openers Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell. The young pacer's third over spelled the end of England's promising start, with Bethell caught by Washington Sundar at square leg for a laborious 14 off 31 balls, followed moments later by Duckett's dismissal.

Ben Duckett's aggressive innings ends in disappointment
Duckett, who had smashed two sixes and six fours in his 43 off 45 balls, couldn't keep a cut shot down, and Jasprit Bumrah grabbed a brilliant juggling catch on the third man boundary. Bumrah, who was returning to ODI cricket after more than 960 days, struck with the first ball off his second spell to dismiss England captain Harry Brook for one run. Prasidh Krishna also struck twice in his fifth over to pick up the massive wicket of Jos Buttler, completing India's bowling assault that left England reeling.
Gurnoor Brar finished with 2 for 61 across nine overs as England completed their innings at 258 in 47.5 overs. The second ODI is scheduled for Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Cardiff.
