Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) maiden IPL title win in the recently-concluded 2025 season ended an 18-year wait for the franchise and its die-hard fan base. The title victory led to celebrations across India, especially in Bengaluru. However, a disturbing video involving a fan's devotion to the franchise's iconic batter Virat Kohli has gone viral.

After RCB’s six-run win over Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 final at Ahmedabad, fans crowded the streets, celebrating the victory. A grand felicitation ceremony was scheduled at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4. However, inadequate preparation and unexpected crowd turnout turned the celebration into a horrific incident, with 11 people losing their lives and over 75 injured in a stampede.

While videos of fans dancing in the streets and chanting slogans were all over social media, one particular clip went viral for its disturbing intensity. A video surfaced showing a fan slitting his wrist and applying the flowing blood as a tilak on a poster of Kohli. The gesture drew mixed reactions, with many questioning the mental toll of fandom and whether such acts are influenced by celebrity culture or expectations from passionate supporters.

The gesture went viral just hours after the tragic stampede at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Meanwhile, lakhs of fans had arrived outside the stadium to welcome their team and get a glimpse of their star players. With free passes being announced for the entry, a huge number of people turned up for the event. Fans were trying their level best to enter the stadium, leading to a terrible situation to the point where a lathi charge had to be used to control the crowd.

Later, FIRs were filed against RCB, event management company DNA, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for poor management and the Karnataka state government as well. Four arrests have already been made, including RCB marketing head Nikhil Sosale. Moreover, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has suspended five senior police officers, and the Karnataka High Court has taken suo motu cognizance, seeking a detailed report from the state.
