West indies suffer points deduction for slow over-rate against Sri Lanka
The West Indies bowled two overs short of the allocated time during the drawn game.
The West Indies have been docked two points and have also been fined 10 per cent of their match fees after maintaining a slow over-rate during the second Test match against Sri Lanka at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which talks about the slow over-rate offence, players are fined five per cent for each over their side bowls over the allocated time, with the maximum penalty capped at 50 per cent.
The West Indies bowled two overs short of the allocated time during the drawn game. Thus, according to Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship playing conditions, they were docked two points, with sides getting sanctioned one point for each over.
The Windies captain, Roston Chase, accepted the offence and therefore a formal hearing will not be necessary going forward. The sanctions were imposed on the Caribbean outfit by match referee Javagal Srinath.
The West Indies secured a 1-0 win over Sri Lanka in a two-match series that formed part of the 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship. They currently find themselves eighth in the standings with a PCT of 15 after playing 10 matches in the cycle.
The second Test between West Indies and Sri Lanka ended in a draw after both sides had great performances with the bat. It all started with Lahiru Udara scoring 188 in the first innings of the match. The hosts matched that with Shai Hope and Justin Greaves scoring 112 and 180 runs, respectively, with the latter winning Player of the Match for his efforts with the bat.

West Indies' next task in Test cricket involves a two-match home series against Pakistan starting from July 25. Before that, the two-time world champions will take on New Zealand in a five-match One Day International (ODI) series which commences on the weekend, July 12.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will host India in a two-match Test series before flying to England to take part in a white-ball tour.
