Half-centuries from Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell and a solid spin bowling display of 2/11 from skipper Mitchell Santner helped the New Zealanders in clinching the first T20I against India at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. The second match takes place on Sunday, January 29, at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Speaking of the opening T20I, Conway showed his class and consistency yet again as he smashed 52 off 35 while Mitchell played an unbeaten knock of 59 off just 30 that took the Kiwis to 176/6 in 20 overs. Pacer Arshdeep Singh had a forgettable outing as he leaked 51 runs for just one wicket in his four-over spell.

In reply, captain Santner delivered a match-winning spell that included crucial scalps of the in-form Shubman Gill and Deepak Hooda. All-rounder Washington Sundar scored a half-century but it went in vain as the Blackcaps sealed the deal by 21 runs. Hardik Pandya and his men would look to keep the series alive by winning the second game in the capital city of Uttar Pradesh.
