Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match 29 of the 17th edition of the IPL 2024 on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at the Wankhede, International Cricket Stadiumin Mumbai. MI will be playing their fourth consecutive match at home while this will be the third match on the road for Chennai Super Kings.

In the ongoing tournament, the Mumbai Indians have started the season slowly but have come back to winning ways in the previous two matches as always. They have won the two matches and lost the three matches in this tournament. Thus, the Indians would like to continue their winning momentum. On the other hand, CSK have also won three matches and two matches in this tournament. Thus, the Super Kings would like to continue their winning momentum.

Currently, Mumbai is placed in the seventh spot in the points table while Chennai are placed fourth. Hence keeping the cutthroat situation in mind, they would want to get another two points to improve their dire situation in the ongoing IPL 2024.

These two teams' last meeting was in match 49 of IPL 2023 at Chennai where MI posted a below-par score of 139/8 and Super Kings chased this score comfortably courtesy of Dewon Conway's 44(42) and wonderful bowling performance by Super Kings courtesy of a 3-fer from Matheesha Pathirana and good support from other bowlers and won by 6 wickets comfortably.

Wankhede Stadium Pitch Report:

The pitches at the Wankhede Stadium have produced two high-scoring matches in the IPL 2024 after the low-scoring match to start the season. The average innings score at this venue in the tournament history is 170, which is something both MI and CSK will be aiming to achieve at the very least, to have a fighting chance during their high-stakes match in the league phase of the IPL. There are no other expectations from the pitch except for being a batters' paradise with many many runs to be had. Both the teams boast of tremendous batting firepower so expect high totals, possibly 200+ in both innings.

MI vs RCB Strategies & Match-ups:

With MI's batting firing on all cylinders in the last IPL 2024 game, letting MI bat first would be a very dangerous ploy in case CSK win the toss. While the confidence to be able to chase a high total instead of the batting-friendly Wankhede surface exists, MI's batting contains the firepower to put up a total just out of reach of any team. The important match-ups for this game are Jasprit Bumrah versus Shivam Dube, and Ravindra Jadeja versus Surya Kumar Yadav, respectively.

Player Battles to Watch Out For:

Ravindra Jadeja vs Suryakumar Yadav:

Across 11 innings, Ravindra Jadeja has bowled 59 deliveries to the man who is currently the No. 1 T20I Batter Suryakumar Yadav. The veteran Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav has been dismissed three times by Jadeja so far and has scored 45 runs at an average of just 15 with a partly lower strike rate of 76.27. Suryakumar Yadav has been MI's best batter in this tournament and Ravindra Jadeja is Chennai's main premium spinner this match-up holds the most importance of any other in this clash.

Rohit Sharma vs Deepak Chahar:

Speaking of another sumptuous battle in the upcoming fixture, in ten innings, the Indian captain Rohit Sharma has hit 60 runs from 49 balls at a strike rate of 122.24 against the talented pacer. Notably, the 'Hitman' has been dismissed three times by Chahar so far. With Rohit adopting a more attacking approach in the powerplay this season, Chahar will be LSG's best bet to combat him.

X-Factors for MI vs CSK:

Mumbai Indians:

After showing sublime batting in the previous game in the ongoing tournament and helping MI to chase the huge target within 16 overs and coming back to his original touch Suryakumar Yadav will be riding high on both confidence and form coming into this game. Surya Kumar Yadav's consistency and striking ability in this tournament is also something the Chennai Super Kings would be wary of.

Chennai Super Kings:

Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad started the season slowly, he came back to form and played superb Innings that helped the Super Kings chase the target without panic on a tricky pitch. He will be riding high on both confidence and form coming into this game. He will be eager to get going on Sunday, and if he does, he will likely be the difference between the two sides.
