'Drop some weight before the IPL' - Samuel Badree advices Shimron Hetmyer on air during a CPL match
Hetmyer's fitness has been the talking point on social media despite him shining with the bat in two CPL matches so far.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to stage the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) from September 19, with the final to take place on November 10. The IPL franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) who have never reached the final in 12 attempts, will look forward to win their first title in the cash-rich league.
DC had a fine campaign last year as they reached the playoffs under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. Unfortunately, the team lost to the Chennai Super Kings by 6 wickets in the second qualifier to get knocked out of the tournament.
The West Indies batsman Shimron Hetmyer is the new addition to the DC squad as they signed him for a staggering price of Rs. 7.75 crores INR in the auction. However, before the swashbuckling batsman begins his stint with the IPL franchise, spin consultant Samuel Badree has a special advice for him.

Shimron Hetmyer is a part of Guyana Amazon Warriors for the 2020 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) while Badree is associated with CPL team St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Both the teams were playing against each other earlier today where the Amazon Warriors outshined the Nevis Patriots by 3 wickets.
During the match, the Guyanese cricketer was on-mike while fielding. That time Samuel asked him to drop some weight before he goes for the IPL on the behalf of the Delhi Capitals. Interestingly, Badree is the spin bowling coach of the IPL franchsie. To this, Hetmyer replied that he would do his best. Sharing a short clip of this incident, the official twitter handle of the Caribbean Premier League wrote on Twitter, “So harsh from Badree.”
Shimron Hetmyer will be looking forward to making it big this time in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League. The cricketer had failed to live up to his hefty check last year and as a result, was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) after the 2019 season. However, the swashbuckling batsman had shined in the last edition of the CPL as he had scored 440 runs in 12 innings at strike rate of 148.14 and has started well this season too.
