Harmanpreet Kaur could lose her DSP position in Punjab Police
Kaur had taken up the position in March this year.
The captain of the India womenâs T20I team Harmanpreet Kaur had to fight a lot to be able to take up the position of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Punjab Police. Her previous employer Western Railways werenât willing to let Harmanpreet go due to bond related obligations and it was only after Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh intervened that she could switch jobs between the two government-run organisations. However, the cricketer has now got in trouble might lose her position as DSP.
A report carried by the Times of India suggests that Kaur who took oath as a DSP in Punjab Police on March 1, 2018, has submitted a fake degree with the department which could lead to her sacking. Punjab Police sent her documents for verification and as per the story has found that the degree is fake.
Kaur denies claims
Harmanpreet, when contacted, said that it wasnât true, however, she wanted to make a statement only after talking to her department. âI donât know who has told you this. Waise to aisa kuch ha nahi (There is nothing like this). I can only talk to you after talking to my department,â she was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
The dynamic batter was awarded the position by Punjab Police after he herculin effort in the Womenâs World Cup 2017 semi-final against Australia. She scored a magnificent 171* to take the team to a formidable total which ensured a victory for the Women in Blue. Though Team India lost the final, it was the most successful tournament for them and earned the players a lot of respect in the cricketing fraternity.
She is at the moment the captain of the T20I team and is considered a really good player of the format. Thatâs what earned her a contract with Womenâs Big Bash League franchise Sydney Thunder. Thus she became the first Indian cricketer to be signed by an overseas T20 league.
Kaur will now take part in Englandâs domestic T20 tournament the Kia Super League 2018 where she will represent Lancashire Thunder.
