Harmanpreet Kaur terms Arjuna Award a great motivation

Indian Women’s team reached the final of the Women’s World Cup 2017. It was a team performance throughout, with different players starring throughout the tournament. Harmanpreet Kaur starred in the semi-final against the mighty Australian team. Her undefeated innings of 171 bagged her the player of the match award and helped Team India to book the ticket for the final. The Punjab batter will be awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award by the Sports Ministry of the Government of India tomorrow. Harmanpreet was understandably happy with the prospect of winning the award and admitted that she never expected the honour. The Indian batting star is a part of the list of 17 sportspersons who are due to be awarded the prestigious prize. Along with her, another cricketer in Cheteshwar Pujara will be conferred the Arjuna Award. “For a sportsperson, any kind of recognition from the government is welcome and it boosts your confidence. Getting Arjuna Award is a dream for any sportsperson,” Harmanpreet said as quoted by the Hindustan Times. She thanked the government of India for considering her for the award. “I thank the government for thinking that I am worthy of this award and I am very happy for this. This will motivate me to work even better in future,” she added. Bats for the Women’s IPL The Punjabi batter argued that the Women’s IPL can be a hit. She shared her experience of playing in the Australian and English T20 leagues. “We get the opportunity to play in other leagues like women’s Big Bash League (in Australia), Kia Super League (in England). If there is women’s IPL in India, it will be very big. I think the BCCI is mulling over on this issue. I wish a women’s IPL starts in the near future,” said the Punjab batter. BCCI has pressure from all angles to think about the Women’s IPL as the profile of Indian Women’s cricket has risen after the successful campaign in the recent World Cup. “I am feeling good (to have got the adulation of the people). The people of India gave us a big reception and responded in a big way to our performance in the World Cup. We feel proud that we have performed well for the country. We hope to do even better in the times to come,” Kaur said.
