I am happy to be back in domestic cricket and will make a comeback to the Pakistan side: Umar Akmal

Pakistan cricketer Umar Akmal has revealed that he is very happy to return back to domestic cricket. Akmal has been named in the Central Punjab squad for the upcoming season and will be joining the squad on 5th September 2021.

The right-hander also added that he will perform to the best of his ability, and will try his best to make a comeback into the national cricket team once again.

“I’m really happy to be back in domestic cricket. I will try to perform to the best of my ability and hopefully make a comeback in the national side,” said Akmal according to Cricket Pakistan.

Akmal was earlier allowed to once again take part in club cricket. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also stated that the Pakistan cricketer has shown remorse, has attended lectures related to anti-corruption, and even participated in a Q&A session related to anti-corruption as well.

Umar Akmal was guilty of failing to report a fixing approach

In April last year, Umar Akmal was levied with two separate charges and was caught for failing to report fixing approaches made by bookies. Back then, the right-hander was suspended for three years.

However, Akmal appealed against the decision, and his sentence was reduced to one and half years. Akmal was also fined a sum of PKR 4250000 as well.

Umar Akmal has played 16 Tests, 121 ODIs, and 84 T20Is for the Pakistan side. While he has scored 1003 runs in Test match cricket at an average of 35.82, the 31-year-old has plundered 3194 runs in the ODI format of the game as well.

In T20I cricket, Akmal scored 1690 runs at an average of 26.0 and a strike rate of 122.73. Umar Akmal is the brother of former Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal. Also, he is the cousin of Pakistan skipper and batting stalwart Babar Azam. Apart from this, Akmal is also the son-in-law of former Pakistan cricketing legend Abdul Qadir.
