The Kennington Oval will host the big game between India and Australia on Sunday who began their campaign on a good note. India, the current No.2 ranked ODI team thumped South Africa in their first game on a tricky surface for the batsmen. They will be up against Australia in their 2nd game to whom they lost the recent home series 2-3 from being 2-0 up. The defending champions are coming from a win against the Windies thanks to Mitchell Starc’s 5-fer and Nathan Coulter-Nile’s breezy knock after the top-order collapse.

All the major stats and numbers that matter ahead of the previous two CWC winners India and Australia:

2 – Only two times India have lost a game at the World Cup in their previous 18 matches. They were defeated by South Africa in the 2011 edition while Australia got better of them in 2015 semis. On the other hand, the Aussies have lost only three of their previous 45 completed World Cup games. They won 41 of them while another game ended in a Tie.


3Rohit Sharma has scored fifty-plus score in each of his last three ODI innings. He scored an unbeaten 122 against South Africa in the previous game and had scores of 95 and 56 respectively in the home series against Australia. Rohit hasn’t scored four successive fifties in his ODI career thus far.


19 – Australia won each of their previous 19 matches while chasing in the World Cup; easily the longest such streak for any side. Their last defeat in CWC while chasing came back in 1999 when they fell short of Pakistan’s total by mere 10 runs in Leeds.


22 – Pat Cummins has taken 22 wickets in his last seven ODI matches with at least two wickets in all those seven games. Cummins has a bowling average of 12.63 and takes a wicket every 17.3 balls in those seven ODIs.


44* – The unbeaten 44 against Ireland in 2015 is the highest score in a World Cup chase for Virat Kohli. In ten chases in the CWC, Kohli scored 272 runs at an average of 34 with six scores of 30 runs and more.


62.12 – Usman Khawaja has a batting average of 62.12 in ODI cricket against India. In nine ODI innings against them, all in 2019, Khawaja scored 497 runs with help of two centuries and three fifties. He scored 20 and more runs in all those nine outings.


1980 – Rohit Sharma needs 20 more runs to become the 4th player to aggregate 2000 runs in ODI cricket against Australia. He scored 1980 runs thus far against the Aussies at an average of 61.87 scoring seven hundreds and seven fifties.


8988 – Shikhar Dhawan has scored 8988 runs in his International career; all while opening the innings. He needs 12 more runs to become the 5th Indian to aggregate 9000 International runs as an opener.
