Very few would’ve given Sri Lanka a chance to pose England even a threat at the Headingley in Leeds. However, the Islanders came into their own and thumped Eoin Morgan & Co by 20 runs to register their second victory of the mega event. Placed seventh in the points table, the Lankans are still left with plenty of work in order to qualify for the semis. England, Bangladesh and Pakistan seem to be their competitors.

Their next match is against South Africa on May 27 at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street.  As far as the Proteas are concerned, they are also knocked out of the mega event after their 49-run defeat at the hands of Pakistan at the Lord’s in London. Apart from their win versus the Afghans, Faf du Plessis and Co haven’t had much to cheer about. They have nothing, but pride to play for in the last two encounters.

Here is the guide to select the Captain and Vice-Captain for Dream11 Fantasy:

Captain Suggestions:

Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis has scored 191 runs in seven matches at a decent average of 38.20. But he has looked far from his best. His struggles can also be comprehended from that fact he has a strike-rate of 81.27, which is seven less than his career strike-rate. The 34-year-old has gotten a couple of half-centuries, but both came in losing causes. He is one of their key players and somehow has to inspire his team in crisis.

Quinton de Kock

With scores of 68, 23, 68 and 47, Quinton de Kock has scored 238 runs in the World Cup and the numbers speak for him. But he is yet to get into full flow with the bat in hand. Even versus Pakistan, he was itching to up the ante and he eventually couldn’t. South Africa would want him to make the starts count and score a big hundred, something which he is capable of, having notched 14 tons in 113 encounters.

Dimuth Karunaratne

Dimuth Karunaratne is currently Lanka’s leading run-scorer in the mega event with 180 runs in four matches at an average of 60. He has a score of 97 while facing the likes of Mitchell Starc and it means that he has the technique and potential to play quality bowling. In the previous match, he succumbed to his first out-an-out failure as he fell prey to Jofra Archer for one. He’ll want to make amends in the upcoming match.

Vice-Captain Suggestions:

Kusal Perera

Kusal Perera started his World Cup journey in the middle-order and played a cameo against New Zealand. Thereafter, he has been trusted to open the batting with his skipper. And he hasn’t disappointed. Perera has 161 runs from four matches and he has racked up those runs at a strike-rate of 109.52. Against a power-packed Proteas pace attack, the southpaw will have his task cut.

Avishka Fernando

Avishka Fernando couldn’t play the first few matches as he was recovering from an injury that he suffered during the warm-up round. However, he came out all guns blazing versus England. After Lanka lost a couple of quick wickets, the 21-year-old came out firing on all cylinders. He scored 49 off 39 with six fours and a couple of sixes. Fernando will be looking to play another knock of substance in the next match.

Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada hasn’t been at his brutal best by any means. In seven matches, the speedster has notched only six matches with best figures of 2/39. He has been down on pace as well. Kagiso will be keen to end his campaign on a high. He will have his chance of making amends of making amends in the Proteas penultimate game. The Lankan batting can be a tad fragile at times, and Rabada has a great chance of showing what he is capable of.
