India, on Sunday, November 21, won the third and final match of their T20I series against New Zealand. Rohit Sharma and Co. defeated the Black Caps by 73 runs to complete a clean sweep. At the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the Men in Blue looked at their very best. After a disappointing campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021, India have been able to make a strong comeback in the T20 format.

Rohit Sharma guides India through

The decision to bat first after winning the toss worked wonders for Team India as they racked up 184 runs on the board for the loss of seven wickets. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan laid the platform for the innings with a 69-run stand for the opening wicket off 38 balls. Rohit brought up his second half-century of the series off a mere 27 balls and carried on with his rich vein of form with the bat.

Rohit went on to score 56 before Ish Sodhi dismissed him ‘Caught and Bowled’. Kishan was the more sedate off the two as he got a handy 21-ball 29 with six fours. Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant failed to make much of an impact. Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer, Harshal Patel and Deepak Chahar’s cameos helped India post a formidable score. Mitchell Santner was the standout Kiwi bowler with three scalps.

Axar Patel comes to the party

The Kiwis scored 21 runs off their first two overs to kick-start their run-chase, but they lost their way since then. Axar Patel wreaked havoc after he got rid of Daryl Mitchell, Mark Chapman and Glenn Phillips in pretty quick succession. The Black Caps lost half their side when Tim Seifert was run out after scoring 17 off 18. Martin Guptill, at the other hand, looked at his very best in the innings.

He stayed until the 11th over and scored a 36-ball 51 with the help of four fours and as many sixes. But after Yuzvendra Chahal accounted for his wicket, the writing was on the walls for the Kiwis. James Neesham and Mitchell Santner couldn’t make an impact as New Zealand were bowled out for 111 in 17.2 overs. Harshal Patel impressed once again as he picked up two crucial wickets for 26 runs.
