India vs South Africa, 2019: 3-match Test series – Statistical Preview

India will play their first home Test series in the ICC Test championship as the 3-match series hosted by them against South Africa will commence on Wednesday. This will also be South Africa’s first series in this Test championship. India and South Africa shared the 3-match T20I series that ended with a score-line of 1-1 as the first match was a washout. India, the No.1 Test side will be looking to bolster their great home record in the longer format. India is expected to experiment with Rohit Sharma as a Test opener for this series. (Min: 10 innings) Rohit scored 149 runs in 12 innings with the best score of 47 and has bagged two ducks. He collectively scored 46 runs against Kagiso Rabada and Vernon Philander and was dismissed three times by each pacer in this format. 94 – Keshav Maharaj needs six more wickets to become the 17th player with 100 Test wickets for South Africa. He has bagged 94 wickets till date in his 25-match Test career. 198 – Number of wickets for Ravindra Jadeja in his 43-match Test career. Jadeja needs two more wickets in the next Test he played to become the 2nd fastest Indian and will also become the fastest left-arm bowler in Test cricket to complete 200 wickets. 342 – Ravichandran Ashwin needs 8 more wickets in his next Test match to become the joint-fastest to 350 wickets in Test cricket. Ashwin has taken 342 wickets in his 65-match Test career. 2014 – Last time South Africa won a Test match in Asia was back in 2014 during their tour of Sri Lanka. Since then, the Saffers featured in nine Test matches in Asia losing in five of them while four others ended in a draw. 8998 – Virat Kohli is two runs away from completing 9000 runs in first-class cricket. Kohli needs 251 more runs for 7000 runs in Test cricket and 281 runs for reaching 21000 International runs.
