The fourth ODI between India and Windies at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai turned out to be a one-sided affair in favour of the home team. The Men in Blue won by 224 runs and took an unassailable lead in the series with one match remaining in Thiruvananthapuram. While the teams competed for supremacy, there was a mini-battle between Ravindra Jadeja and Virat Kohli.

After Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu’s twin centuries lifted the hosts to 377 in the 50 overs, Kieran Powell and Chandrapaul Hemraj had a tumultuous task ahead of them. Hemraj took the strike and he played the first three balls from fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar without taking any undue risk. In the fourth delivery, the left-hander opened his account for himself as well as for his team.

Jadeja beats his captain

The speedster churned out a back-of-a-length delivery that shaped away from Hemraj. He went on to the backfoot and punched the ball through the off side. He didn’t quite find the middle of the willow, but the ball raced away. Jadeja and Kohli ran behind the cherry with all their might. For a chunk of the race, the Indian skipper was in front of the all-round cricketer from Saurashtra.

However, at the end moment, Jadeja edged him and reached the ball. He made a sliding stop and parried the leather back to Kohli. On realising that Jadeja had crossed him, the Delhi-born cricketer slowed down and allowed his teammate to collect the ball. The 29-year-old cricketer did an excellent job as well, hurling an accurate throw to wicketkeeper MS Dhoni.

In the meantime, Hemraj and Powell completed two runs comfortably. By the time the throw came in, both batters had already completed the runs. Later, Kohli also contributed his bit in the field by inflicting a run out of Powell in the sixth over. Jadeja did well with the ball, conceding only 39 runs in his 10 over and picking the wicket of opposition fast bowler Keemo Paul.
