Indian Test squad that lost to England in 2012-13 Test series: Where are they now?
It was a not so good phase for Indian cricket in Tests.
13. Ishant Sharma
Ishant Sharma was one of those few pacers who was thrown a very long rope by the selectors initially in his career. The lack of options forced them to stick around with him for years as he was talented enough. He played two Tests back then and picked four wickets.
However, years later, he has repaid all the faith that everyone kept in him. Sharma is one of the front line seamers for India in Tests at the moment and is easily the most experienced of all. Still just 30 years old, he has got a long career ahead of him.
14. Murali Vijay
With some strong performances in the IPL and in domestic cricket, Murali Vijay made it into the side as a backup opener. However, he couldn’t make it to the final crop because of a formidable opening pair in Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag. As these two kept failing, Vijay did get his chances later on.
The opening batsman, who is very patient, was the perfect man to do the job. He did grab his opportunities and was one of the most consistent performers for the team. However, just after his recent failures in 2018, he was dropped from the team.
15. Umesh Yadav
Umesh Yadav first made headlines with his ability to clock up a great pace. He consistently bowled close to 145 kph and sometimes could also go till 150. However, he was very inaccurate and wasn’t as consistent. But, yet again, the limited resources available at that point in time forced the selectors and the management to cling on to him.
The pacer looked impressive in the first Test with 4 wickets in two innings. But, he had to miss the remainder of the series with a back problem. The 30-year-old is one of the important members of the Test squad at the moment and is also making a contention to fit into the ODI and T20I squads.
