The defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) emerged as the champions of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) after defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) in the final. This was their fifth IPL title and second on the trot. With the victory in IPL 2020, the Mumbai-based franchise has managed to end their jinx of winning the T20 Trophy only in the odd years.

MI had won their first title in 2013 under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. This was followed by them emerging victorious in 2015, 2017 and 2019. Thus, many felt that Mumbai will not be able to defend their title this year as this is an even year. However, Rohit Sharma’s side defied all the odds and thrashed DC in the final by 5 wickets to win IPL for a record 5 times.

After registering victory in an even year, the skipper Rohit took a hilarious jibe on all the people who were talking about MI’s even-year jinx. The opening batsman shared an old commercial saying ‘his side went even this year’.

The commercial shared by Rohit was launched by the broadcasters ahead of the IPL 2020. In the ad, Rohit is seen interacting with his superstitious uncle who is suggesting him to change odd-numbered things around him to even-numbered so that MI can win the cup this year. To this, Rohit replied that all the people are making a fool out of his uncle as this is an odd season only. This is the 13th season of the Indian Premier League, which is an odd number.

Sharing the old commercial, Rohit Sharma, wrote, “We indeed went even this season. Bola tha aapko mamu inki ganit weak hai”.

Rohit Sharma shines in the final for his team

The captain of Mumbai Indians had a lukewarm season throughout the tournament as he failed to contribute much with the willow. Rohit also suffered a hamstring injury during a match against Kings XI Punjab and had to rule himself out from the next few games. However, this didn’t affect the team’s performance as West Indies great Kieron Pollard led MI brilliantly and helped them finish at the top of the points table with 18 points after the league stage.

The opening batsman finally regained his form in the final against Delhi Capitals as he smashed a stunning 68 off 51 deliveries to take his team home. Rohit ended the season with 332 runs under his belt in 12 fixtures at an average of over 27 and a strike rate of 127.69.
