IPL 10: Best Uncapped Indian XI

In the opening season of the IPL, a young unknown leggie in the form of Mumbaikar Dinesh Salunkhe was very proud of the fact that he was in the same squad with his idol despite not getting a chance in the playing XI due to him. Manish Pandey, who was a young middle order batsman for Karnataka was picked up to the national team thanks to his heroics with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in his debut season in South Africa. Ravichandran Ashwin too had a similar experience after playing for the Chennai Super Kings in his debut season. One of the reasons for India’s rise to the top of the world in the limited format of cricket is due to the immediate success of IPL as a tournament. This season has been no different with the youngsters getting ample opportunities to shine at the highest level of Indian domestic cricket – The IPL. MSK Prasad, the chief selector, has credited the tournament to the rise of players such as Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Basil Thampi and India’s reserve wicket-keeper for the Champions Trophy – Rishabh Pant. The following squad is a combination of only uncapped Indian players in the tenth edition of the IPL: #1 Rahul Tripathi The 26-year-old Rahul Tripathi has had the best of starts to his IPL career. Representing the Rising Pune Supergiant, the Maharashtrian has scored 391 runs at an average of 27.92 with the highest score of 93, coming off in a match-winner against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The right-hander batted as low as the No.8 slot at the Ranji Trophy and was a surprise when the Supergiant management decided to play the batsman at the top of the batting order. It is the Maharashtrian’s technique and timing that has caught the sight of the Indian selectors, who had high praises for the opener. #2 Manan Vohra Manan Vohra. (Photo Source: BCCI) The 23-year-old right-handed batsman had his best season in the Indian Premier League in the 2014 season or IPL 7 where he amassed 324 runs in eight matches at an average of 40.50. That season propelled his place in the Kings XI Punjab squad, and since then, he has been a regular for the Punjab team. Fast-forward to the tenth season of the IPL and the opener has not missed a chance to score some handy runs for his side, with 95 being his highest score this season. That innings came against a valiant bowling attack that consists of the likes of Rashid Khan, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Siddarth Kaul and the Australian all-rounder Moises Henriques. #3 Shreyas Iyer Shreyas Iyer of Delhi Daredevils. The 22-year-old Mumbaikar came into the limelight following his heroics against the visiting Australia team, where he scored a double century in double-quick time in a practice match. In his debut season for the Daredevils, the young swashbuckling batsman scored 439 runs at an average of 33.76, a feat which he has not managed to achieve since then. The Mumbaikar is known for clearing the boundaries at ease for his domestic side and would be a powerhouse for the Uncapped XI. This season, the 22-year-old has scored 338 runs at an average of 33.80 in 12 innings. #4 Nitish Rana Nitish Rana. (Photo Source: BCCI) One of Mumbai Indians’ most trusted batsman at the current moment, Nitish Rana makes it to the squad of our Uncapped XI. The attacking left-handed batsman from Delhi has grown up at the Feroz Shah Kotla playing his cricket alongside Shikhar Dhawan and Gautam Gambhir. One of the key people for molding of this talent would be his coach Sanjay Bharadwaj, who has ensured that the left-hander becomes one of the key players for not only the state but also for the IPL franchise. The 23-year-old has scored 333 runs at an average of 30.27 in only his second season at the IPL. His calm, composed approach has been the left-handers’ key attributes in the shortest form of the game. #5 Ishan Kishan Mohali: Ishan Kishan of Gujarat Lions in action. (Photo: Surjeet Yadav/IANS) Once India’s U-19 captain, Ishan Kishan makes the cut as the last player in the middle-order for the Uncapped XI. Born on the 18th of July 1998, the batsman from Jharkhand is one for the future. The left-hander has shown signs of power-hitting and calmness while plying his trade for the Gujarat Lions from the year 2016. In the limited appearances that he got, the left-hander has made 277 runs for the Lions at an average of 27.70 and a strike-rate of 134.46. His statistics has improved drastically from his first season, where he averaged a meager 8.40 compared to his second season’s average of 22.75. #6 Krunal Pandya Krunal Pandya. (Photo: IANS) Mumbai Indians’ key player and the only player to dismiss AB de Villiers three out of four times has been the left-arm spinner – Krunal Pandya. The 26-year-old all-rounder from Baroda scored 237 runs in his first season at the IPL, at an average of 39.50 and picked up six wickets with the ball. But the all-rounder got his recognition and IPL 10. The 26-year-old picked up ten wickets at an economy rate of 6.82 and scored 243 runs at an average of 34.71. The innings of 47 against the Rising Pune Supergiant was by far one of the best knocks for the all-rounder this IPL. #7 Shahbaz Nadeem Shahbaz Nadeem. (Photo Source: BCCI) Shahbaz Nadeem makes it to the XI based on his canny bowling. The 27-year-old all-rounder from Jharkhand has been one of the consistent performers in the relatively unknown domestic arena. The left-arm spinner from Muzaffarpur has picked up six wickets in the ongoing season of the IPL. He has been in and out of the team due to the presence of the experienced leg-spinner Amit Mishra. The way the left-arm spinner applies revs on his deliveries is what makes him different from the other spinners in the IPL. #8 Mohammed Siraj Mohammed Siraj. (Photo: IANS) The right-arm pacer from Hyderabad has stormed his way into the XI on the basis of sheer brilliant seam bowling. The 23-year-old right arm quick picked up 10 wickets in the 10th season of the IPL, with an economy rate of 9.21 and struck every 14th delivery in the season. The bowler is also capable of having a go with the bat in his hand. The pacer is known for hitting the deck hard and often bends his back to get some bounce. With best figures of 4/32, the right-arm pacer is only expected to improve and play positively in the coming seasons for the Sunrisers. #9 Siddarth Kaul Sunrisers Hyderabad bowler Siddarth Kaul. (Photo: IANS) Punjab pacer Siddarth Kaul rose to prominence with his performance for the India U19 team in the World Cup of 2008 where Virat Kohli’s team won the title. He has been doing well in domestic cricket for his side and was rewarded with an IPL contract first by Kolkata Knight Riders but couldn’t break into the team, was picked by Delhi Daredevils who featured him in 6 and 5 matches respectively in 2013 and 2014. The Sunrisers Hyderabad obtained his services in 2016 but gave him a game only in the recently concluded season. Kaul bowled the knuckleball, got the yorkers going and varied his pace to deceive the batsmen. By the end of the tournament, though SRH couldn’t advance further than the playoffs, he had picked 16 wickets in 10 matches and had become David Warner’s trusted death bowler. This experience will certainly add a lot of value to the 27-year-old’s career. #10 Shardul Thakur Shardul Thakur. (Photo Source: BCCI) The fast-bowler from Mumbai had already featured for a team before he represented the Rising Pune Supergiant in the tenth edition of the IPL. In his previous appearance for the Kings XI Punjab, he just featured in a single game where he picked up a solitary wicket giving away 38 runs in three overs.In his second season for the IPL, the right-arm quick picked up 11 wickets from 12 appearances at an economy rate of 8.25, at a strike-rate of 20.81. He contributed at crucial junctures for his side that played a key role in the success of RPS this year. #11 Basil Thampi Basil Thampi. (Photo Source: BCCI) The Kerala pacer Basil Thampi makes it to the Playing XI for his brilliant bowling at the death overs of the innings. The 23-year-old bowler from Ernakulam picked up 11 wickets for the Gujarat Lions at an economy rate of over 9.49 per innings. The pacer is known for his toe-crushing yorkers and ever-so-accurate slower deliveries which the batsmen have failed to spot. He is highly capable of bowling at over 140 kph and delivers his yorkers on a regular and consistent basis. The bowler has picked up the wickets of Chris Gayle, MS Dhoni, Kieron Pollard, Virat Kohli and Manish Pandey in just his second season at the IPL. He was also declared as the Emerging Player of the Tournament with his eye-grabbing stuff with the seam.
