It was the third hat-trick in the league’s inaugural season and first by an overseas player, that was witnessed in the game between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. It was also the second of this kind taken by a CSK bowler after Balaji did in a game against Punjab. It was some consistent bowling shown by the South African stalwart in the entire match as he finished with 4/21 in his quota of four overs. It was a hattrick that went unnoticed given that it took place between two spells.

Ntini dismissed the Kolkata captain on the final ball of his first spell in the fifth over and didn’t bowl until the Seventeenth over of the KKR innings. When he did in the death overs, he added the wicket of Debabrata Das and David Hussey to his tally on the two consecutive balls in his second spell. It was one of the few split hat-tricks that the game ever witnessed. It was a day to remember for the man himself and CSK fans that are always behind their team in their ups and down.

Batsmen dismissed: Sourav Ganguly, D Das and David Hussey
