The Chennai Super Kings won their third IPL title. In the big finals of the IPL 2018, they beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad to claim the ultimate glory. The MS Dhoni-led side proved to be too good in all the three departments on the day for the Orange Army. Riding on a brilliant ton from Shane Watson, the Super Kings chased down the target of 178 set by the Sunrisers with ease.

In the match, the Sunrisers Hyderabad lost Sreevats Goswami early. Kane Williamson and Shikhar Dhawan got starts and added 51 runs for the second wicket. However, quick dismissals of the set batsmen saw the SRH innings slump big time. Shakib Al Hasan tried to revive it with a 15-ball 23. But the actual impetus was given by Yusuf Pathan and Carlos Brathwaite. While Yusuf hammered an unbeaten 45 off 25 balls, Brathwaite scored an 11-ball 21.

In the run chase, the Chennai Super Kings lost the wicket of Faf du Plessis early. Suresh Raina and Shane Watson then carved a match-winning 117 run stand for the second wicket to steer the run chase. After Raina’s dismissal on 32, Watson took everything on himself. He went on to score his second IPL ton this season to anchor the big run chase in the big finals for his side.

Here are the Chennai Super Kings player ratings for the big final:

Faf du Plessis – 2/10

Faf du Plessis was the chief architect of the Chennai Super Kings win when the two sides had locked horns in the Qualifier 1. On the night of the finals, he could not replicate his heroics with the bat. Du Plessis could only score 10 runs in the 11 balls that he faced.

Shane Watson –  10/10

Shane Watson was the main man for the Chennai Super Kings in the match. Watson scored his fourth IPL ton and his second in the season. He remained unbeaten on 117 off just 57 balls with 11 fours and 8 sixes to his name. His century helped CSK clinch their third IPL title. It is worth noting that Watson did not score a single run in the first 10 balls that he faced on the night. It was a brilliant comeback from his end to steal the show from thereon.

Suresh Raina – 6/10

Suresh Raina played a very important part in the game for CSK. Raina scored 32 off the 24 balls that he faced in the match. He arrived at the crease early in the innings and played the ideal second fiddle to Shane Watson. He hit three fours and a six during his stay at the crease.

Ambati Rayudu – 5/10

Ambati Rayudu arrived at the crease after the dismissal of Suresh Raina in the innings. After a quiet outing in the previous game, Rayudu was keen on finishing things on a high. Rayudu remained unbeaten on 16 to see his side through with the winning boundary.

MS Dhoni – 8/10

MS Dhoni proved it yet again that he is the best leader in the modern day cricket. Dhoni led the Chennai Super Kings to their third IPL title. In the match, he inflicted a very important stumping of Kane Williamson. He did not get a chance to bat in the game.

Dwayne Bravo – 4/10

Dwayne Bravo seems to have lost his charm with the ball as the season progressed. He was the most expensive bowler in the Chennai Super Kings camp. He was taken away for as many as 46 runs in the four overs that he bowled. He took the wicket of Shakib Al Hasan in the game.

Ravindra Jadeja – 6/10

Ravindra Jadeja did not get his complete quota of four overs to bowl on the day. Jadeja broke the 51-run stand between Dhawan and Williamson by dismissing Dhawan in the 9th over. In the two overs that Jadeja bowled, he returned with figures of 1/24.

Deepak Chahar – 5.5/10

Deepak Chahar has been a revelation for the Chennai Super Kings. Chahar continued his good form on the day. He did not get as much assistance as he has been getting throughout the season. Despite that, he managed to restrict the run flow. In the four overs that he bowled, he conceded just 25 runs.

Karn Sharma – 6/10

Karn Sharma was drafted in to the playing eleven at the expense of Harbhajan Singh in the match. He bowled three overs and gave away 25 runs. He took the big wicket of Kane Williamson in the match. It was the big wicket in the context of the game that changed the course of the SRH innings.

Shardul Thakur – 5/10

Shardul Thakur has been guilty of conceding a lot of runs in the season. Thakur had yet another expensive outing in the match. He, however, gave away just 10 runs in the final over of the innings. He finished with figures off 1/31 in the three overs that he bowled.

Lungi Ngidi – 8.5/10

Lungi Ngidi was the pick of the bowlers for the Super Kings in the match. He was the toughest bowler to negotiate for the Sunrisers. He bowled a maiden early in the game to show some serious skills. In the four overs that he bowled, he returned with figures of 1/26. He took the wicket of Deepak Hooda.
