The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) began the eleventh season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with three thumping victories. However, they have been jolted with a couple of defeats thereafter at the hands of the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) respectively. To add to their woes, Shikhar Dhawan, one of their prime batsmen, has injured himself during their game against Punjab.

During their run-chase, Shikhar Dhawan was smacked on the elbow off a delivery by Barinder Sran which rose from a good length. The left-handed batsman screeched in pain following which he retired hurt after playing only a single delivery. The Sunrisers were chasing a steep target and Dhawan’s injury sparked a massive blow for them from which they never recovered.

The jolts for the Sunrisers

Prior to the game against CSK, he was uncertain to take part and was eventually ruled out of the game. SRH missed his presence badly at the top of the order as they lost frequent wickets courtesy of some fiery bowling by Deepak Chahar. Also, it was the first instance when the Sunrisers played a game without the services of both Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner.

Warner was earlier appointed as the skipper of the team, however, he was banned by Cricket Australia for a year following the ball-tampering saga. Thereafter, SRH barred him from playing this season’s IPL after which Kane Williamson was passed on the baton of leadership. Nevertheless, they brushed the disappointment aside and started the league on an impressive note.

Dhawan played a couple of decent knocks against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) which kick-started the tournament for them. Meanwhile, Dhawan has shared a message on Twitter and updated on his injury and vowed to come back soon. He wrote

“Thanks to all my fans and well-wishers for the wonderful messages you have been sending and wishing for my recovery. I’m on my path to recovery and will be back in action soon. Till then enjoy the #iplt20 #willbebackinactionsoon”
