Royal Challengers Bangalore opened their winning account of the 2018 IPL with a close 4-wicket win at home against the Kings XI Punjab. KL Rahul powered his team to yet another quick start before Umesh Yadav’s 3-wicket over slowed down the run rate. Ravichandran Ashwin’s 33 towards the end ensured his team finished with 155 before getting bowled out in the final over. Quinton de Kock’s 45 at the top and 40-ball 57 from AB de Villiers helped the home side get over the line after KXIP spinners restricted them.

3/23Umesh Yadav’s bowling figures in this game. He took a total of 13 wickets in his last five matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Umesh took a 4-wicket haul in the last year’s ODI against Australia and bagged six wickets in the three games in the 2017 IPL.


7 – Number of man of the match awards for Umesh Yadav in the IPL. These are the most number of player of the match awards for a specialist pacer. Ashish Nehra won six such awards in the IPL.

23 – Umesh Yadav took 23 wickets against Kings XI Punjab in the IPL which are the 2nd most for any player. He took those wickets in 15 games at an average of 17.6 with six 3-wicket hauls.


33 – Ravichandran Ashwin’s 33 is his highest IPL score. His previous highest was 29 for RPS against SRH in the 2016 season. This is also his 2nd highest individual T20 score behind 46 for CSK against RR in the 2013 CLT20 Semis.


157.14 – Ravichandran Ashwin’s batting strike-rate of 157.14 during his 21-ball 33 in this game is the highest S/R for any captain in an innings in this IPL season. Kane Williamson scored six runs in four balls against MI at an S/R of 150.
