In 2011, The Indian cricket team had won the World Cup for the second time after 28 years and we saw the players diving into the Indian Premier League barely days after the end of the ICC tournament. This time, however, tables have turned since IPL 2019 will happen before the ICC World Cup 2019 and this brings the workload of the Indian players in to focus.

The IPL season 12, which is scheduled to begin from March 23 will end just before the World Cup, will be played in England and Wales from May 30. India would take on South Africa in their first game of the tourney on June 5. Many former cricketers and cricket experts want the BCCI to keep an eye on the amount of cricket the players who are certain to go to the World Cup play in the IPL for their respective franchises.

There were even talks between the Indian players and the BCCI about resting some of the key players for the IPL, to keep them fresh for the World Cup. But the talks stalled when the players reminded that the franchises have invested a huge amount of money in the league and the players and no team would want to miss out players.

COA chief clears the air about Indian team’s workload management

With 10 days to go for the commencement of the Indian Premier League 2019, the CoA chief has said that a specialized team is monitoring this and the board will discuss with the teams at the right time. “The BCCI (as a team) is keeping a watch on the matter and will speak to the franchises at the right time. We have a team, which is keeping track of this,” Rai was quoted as saying by Times of India.

The sentiment of workload management was also shared by Indian and Sunrisers Hyderabad fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He mentioned that the workload management will be required for the World Cup-bound quick bowlers in the second half of the league when the picture for qualification of the last four is clear.

Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni, on the other hand, mentioned that playing in the entire league will keep the bowlers prepared for the World Cup and this can be done by maintaining a proper diet and daily routine.
