IPL 2021: Turning point in RCB vs MI game

When Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians reached the Dubai International Stadium, the stakes were quite high. Both the teams would’ve desperately needed a win, for Mumbai more so than Bangalore, as their loss would’ve meant them having only four wins in 10 matches. That is exactly what happened.

Bangalore started the match with a good initial burst of runs. They batted well in the middle order and fifties from Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell saw them post 165 for 6. That was a par total on this wicket and if someone had to predict a winner, it would’ve been Mumbai Indians. 

Considering the strength of their batting, it wasn’t too difficult to expect them to fire. Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock got them off to a great start. Inside the powerplay, they made 56 runs without losing a wicket. In the over just after the power play ended, de Kock fell to Yuzvendra Chahal for 24. The score was 57 for 1. Rohit looked set, moving along well.

But, in the 10th over, an incident started a rather upsetting collapse for Mumbai. Ishan Kishan hit a ball straight down the ground, which was traveling on Rohit’s way. The skipper got his hand up and ended up hurting himself. In the very same over, he stepped out and tried to take on the big boundary. He was gone, courtesy of Maxwell’s off-spin. The score was 79 for 2. 

In the next over, Kishan was dismissed by Chahal. 81 for 3. A couple more overs and wickets later, Harshal Patel arrived at the bowling crease. He was facing Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya. He got them out on successive deliveries and then dismissed Rahul Chahar in the third ball to claim a hat-trick. Mumbai was eventually bowled out for 111. 

So basically, Mumbai slipped from 79 for 1 to 111 all-out. This is basically 32 for 9. No batter in the Mumbai Indians line-up other than the openers, managed to get into the double figures. Harshal Patel picked up four wickets while Yuzvendra Chahal picked up three scalps. Apart from the chief architect of the downfall, there was Maxwell who picked up two wickets while Mohammed Siraj got one as well.
