IPL 2022: Best Indian XI after the first week

The first week of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 edition began with the victory of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets and ended with the victory Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) against Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six wickets, too. As a result, KKR topped the points table (after the KKR vs PBKS game). Youngsters such as Ayush Badoni, Rahul Chahar, Ravi Bishnoi, Anuj Rawat, and many more made a lot of impact with their performances. In the first week, Indian players outclassed overseas players. These are the players who have set a benchmark for the upcoming games. Let’s take a look at them – Best Indian XI after the first week of IPL 2022 1. Ishan Kishan – Mumbai Indians Ishan Kishan. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Ishan was bought back by his previous franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) for a massive INR 15.25 crores. A solitary game was played by Mumbai Indians in the first week of IPL 2022, and Ishan Kishan did a remarkable job in it. Initially, Delhi Capitals (DC) won the toss and decided to bowl first. Rohit and Ishan made the most out of it and registered a 67-run partnership for the first wicket. After Kuldeep dismissed Rohit at 41 runs off 32 balls, Ishan started playing his shots. In the end, he scored a 48-ball 81 unbeaten runs, that included 11 fours and two massive sixes. Due to his knock, MI put up 177/5 on the board in the first innings. 2. Robin Uthappa – Chennai Super Kings Robin Uthappa. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) In IPL 2022, Robin Uthappa is playing as an opening batter for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In the first week, Robin played two matches and became the top scorer with 78 runs for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In the first match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he managed to score 28 runs off 21 balls, including two fours and two sixes with a strike rate of 133.33. KKR’s mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy dismissed Robin Uthappa with a lightning-quick stumping by Sheldon Jackson. On the other hand, in the second match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Robin smashed 50 runs off 27 balls which contained eight fours and one six with a strike rate of 185.19. Unfortunately, Uthappa was trapped in front of the stumps by Ravi Bishnoi off the very next ball after reaching his fifty. 3. Sanju Samson – Rajasthan Royals Sanju Samson. Rajasthan played only one match in the first week and that was against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Firstly, SRH won the toss and chose to field. RR’s opening pair batted amazingly in the powerplay with 58/0. Unluckily, Yashasvi Jaiswal got out the very next ball of the match. In this situation, captain Sanju came at number three to bat and he handled the innings extremely well with his experience and outstanding batting performance. Sanju scored 55 runs off 27 balls, including three fours and five tremendous sixes at a strike rate of 203.70 which also included a compact 17-run partnership with Jos Buttler and a giant 73-run partnership with Devdutt Padikkal. 4. Devdutt Padikkal – Rajasthan Royals Devdutt Padikkal. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Devdutt Padikkal was acquired by Rajasthan Royals for INR 7.75 crores in the mega auction. As RR has played only one game in the first week, Padikkal didn’t get enough opportunities to showcase his abilities. Due to the good performance of each and every batter they achieved a massive total of 210/6. Devdutt’s contribution of 41 runs off only 29 balls was one of the major factors for RR’s win in the end. He managed to smash four good-looking fours and two incredible sixes at a strike rate of 141.38. Devdutt and Samson together established a 73-run stand for RR’s third wicket. 5. Deepak Hooda – Lucknow Super Giants Deepak Hooda. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Hooda plays for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as they bought him for INR 5.75 crores. In the first week of IPL 2022, Hooda played two matches, against Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In the match against GT, Hooda played a courageous knock of 55 runs off 41 balls, including six nicely-driven fours and two incredible sixes at a strike rate of 134.15. During this knock, Deepak and debutant Ayush scored an 87-run stand till the end. In the second match against CSK, Deepak scored only 13 runs off eight balls and got out against Bravo’s slower delivery while chasing. LSG’s top order played exceptionally well, with Rahul’s 40, De Kock’s 61, and Evin’s unbeaten 55 helping LSG to a win. 6. Dinesh Karthik – Royal Challengers Bangalore Dinesh Karthik. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) RCB bought Dinesh Karthik for INR 5.50 crores due to his several skills such as being a perfect finisher, an experienced Indian keeper, and the busiest player at the crease. DK played two crucial cameos against PBKS and KKR. In the first game against PBKS, RCB was batting first and DK came in to bat at number four. He played an awesome innings of 32 unbeaten runs off just 14 balls which contained three beautiful fours and three lightning sixes at a strike rate of 228.57 in order to put a strong enough total. However, in the second match against KKR, DK came in to bat at number seven while chasing. He delivered very well and finished the game as a perfect finisher with 14 runs off just seven balls with one four and one huge six in the end. 7. Ayush Badoni – Lucknow Super Giants Ayush Badoni. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The youngster, Ayush Badoni, was bought by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the base price of INR 20 lakhs. Ayush played two games in the first week of IPL 2022. Ayush – Hooda together built an enormous partnership of 87 runs for the fifth wicket in their first match against GT. Ayush smashed a fifty on his IPL debut and ended his innings with 54 runs off 41 balls, including four fours and three great sixes at a strike rate of 131.71. However, in his second game against (CSK), Ayush came in to bat at number six with Evin on the crease. Despite this critical situation, Ayush held his nerves and played an incredible match-winning knock by smacking only two but valuable sixes. 8. Washington Sundar – Sunrisers Hyderabad Washington Sundar. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) SRH boought Sundar for INR 8.75 crores as their main all-rounder for IPL 2022 and that became the only positive thing after SRH’s first match. SRH played their only game against RR in the first week of IPL 2022. Sunrisers all-rounder Washington Sundar had enough time in the second innings as he scored a total of 40 runs off only 14 balls, wherein he scored 24 runs from just Nathan Coulter-Nile’s over by hitting a six, four fours, and a double. SRH crossed the 100-run mark and stood at 105/6 after the 17thover. However, in the end, Boult dismissed Sundar in the 19th over and SRH failed to chase down the steep target of 211. 9. Kuldeep Yadav – Delhi Capitals Kuldeep Yadav. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Delhi Capitals (DC) brought Kuldeep for Rs 2 crores in the IPL mega auction. In the first week of IPL 2022, DC played only one game, and that too against Mumbai Indians (MI). Initially, DC won the toss and decided to bowl first. Mumbai Indians started their innings with a lot of positivity and intent. They scored 53 for no loss at the end of six overs. Kuldeep was brought into the attack and in his first over itself, he dismissed Rohit Sharma after not giving him a release shot. Then, he dismissed Anmolpreet Singh followed by Pollard with a superb catch by Tim Seifert at square leg. He ended up giving away 18 runs and taking three wickets. 10. Umesh Yadav – Kolkata Knight Riders Umesh Yadav. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Umesh went unsold twice at IPL 2022 mega auction before Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), his former franchise, gave him a contract at his base price of Rs 2 crores. Now, he is the Purple Cap holder with eight wickets in three games (after the completion of the KKR vs PBKS game). In the game against CSK, Umesh struck in his first over when he dismissed CSK’s opener Ruturaj Gaikwad by extracting a steep bounce. Later, Gaikwad’s new opening partner Devon Conway fell into the trap in the fifth over and was dismissed by Umesh. While against PBKS, Umesh Yadav achieved his best bowling figures to cause great damage, bagging four wickets for just 23 runs with a maiden over and an economy rate of only 5.75. His wickets included Mayank Agarwal, Liam Livingstone, Harpreet Brar, and Rahul Chahar. 11. Mohammed Shami – Gujarat Titans Mohammed Shami. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Gujarat Titans (GT) bought Shami for INR 6.25 crores in the mega auction to perform the role of strike bowler for them. Similarly, he struck for GT in their only game against LSG in the first week of the tournament. He took three wickets for 25 runs with an economy rate of 6.25 in his four overs. Initially, he sent back LSG’s skipper KL Rahul off the very first ball of the game, and before the end of his second over, Shami clean-bowled De Kock as well. However, as the powerplay came to an end, Shami again struck by dismissing Manish Pandey in his third over. As he destroyed LSG’s top order, GT’s bowlers managed to restrict them to 158/6. In the end, GT won the match and Shami was adjudged the player of the match.
