After losing five matches in a row, Kolkata Knight Riders showed some guts as they managed to beat the strong-looking Rajasthan Royals on May 2 (Monday). RR did try to apply some pressure during their bowling. However, some disciplined batting from KKR ensured that the two-time champions bounce back in the tournament.

KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to have a bowl first. The Royals, on the back of captain Sanju Samson’s (54) and West Indies hitter Shimron Hetmyer’s unbeaten 27-run cameo, posted a respectable total of 152 for 5.

RR lost opener Devdutt Padikkal for just two runs as speedster Umesh Yadav (1/24) scalped his wicket in the third over. The Orange Cap holder Jos Buttler could not get going as well. Batter Riyan Parag and Karun Nair also contributed to their team’s effort. For the Men in Purple, Tim Southee, Umesh, Anukul Roy, and Shivam Mavi got the wickets.

KKR faced some early jolts in their innings

In reply, the two-time champions had a poor start as opener Aaron Finch and Baba Indrajith could not get going. However, skipper Shreyas Iyer and batter Nitish Rana batted wonderfully and the finishing touches were provided by batter Rinku Singh.

As a result, KKR break their losing streak and move up in the points table. For RR, pacer Boult, Krishna, and Kuldeep Sen were the successful bowlers. However, they were unable to do enough to win the match for their team. RR have now lost two matches in a row. After winning tonight’s match, KKR have moved up in the points table ahead of PBKS. Meanwhile, GT (first), LSG (second), RR (third), and SRH (fourth) complete the top four teams in the points table.
