Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) outplayed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by eight wickets in Match 34 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on April 19, Friday. LSG skipper KL Rahul won the toss and invited CSK to bat first.

CSK endured a challenging start to their innings, losing three wickets inside the first 10 overs. However, Ravindra Jadeja rescued the visitors to post a reasonable score of 176, remaining unbeaten on 57 off 40 deliveries. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni, played an explosive cameo, batting down the order, scoring 28 off just nine deliveries, featuring three boundaries and two maximums. Krunal Pandya emerged as LSG's standout bowler, picking up two wickets for 16 in three overs. 

In reply, Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul led LSG's innings, adding 134 runs for the opening wicket. The Proteas star fell to Muztafizur Rahman in the 15th over after contributing 54 off 43 deliveries. Meanwhile, Rahul's innings ended at 82 for 53 in the 18th over with hosts reaching 161 by that time. Later, Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis concluded proceedings for the Super Giants, successfully chasing down the target with six balls to spare.

1. MS Dhoni's explosive cameo in first innings

The legendary MS Dhoni once again flabbergasted the cricketing world with his batting prowess. The former CSK skipper, who batted at No. 8, played a remarkable innings of 28* from just nine deliveries. The 42-year-old's knock was studded with three boundaries and two maximums, with one of his six being 101 metres long. During his innings, he achieved a new milestone of reaching 5,000 runs as a wicketkeeper in the IPL.

2. KL Rahul's innings and blistering partnership with Quinton de Kock

KL Rahul led his side from the front in both innings. The LSG skipper delivered a gritty knock off 53-ball 82 runs and also forged a formidable 134-run partnership with Quinton de Kock, who has contributed 54 runs. Moreover, the 32-year-old executed a stunning catch to dismiss CSK's power-hitter Shivam Dube for just three runs, further exemplifying his impact on the field.

3. Nicholas Pooran's spectacular late show

Nicholas Pooran entered the crease when LSG required 43 runs in the last five overs. The dynamic West Indian batter sealed the victory with a boundary, courtesy of a no-ball from Tushar Deshpande, as Lucknow secured their fourth win of the season. The wicketkeeper-batter remained unbeaten on 23 runs from just 12 deliveries, hammering three fours and one six during the process.
