Venkatesh Iyer is surely a name to reckon with. For the second match in a row, the Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) batsman decimated the opposition bowling attack and helped the Eoin Morgan-led side hammer the Mumbai Indians with 7 wickets to spare.

Iyer displayed no sense of fear against a bowling attack consisting of names like Trent Boult, Adam Milne, and Jasprit Bumrah. The 26-year-old plundered his way to a fantabulous 53 at a whopping strike rate of 176.66.

Rahul Tripathi also tore into the Mumbai bowling attack and scored a marauding 74* off 42 deliveries. And, it was the 88-run partnership between Iyer and Tripathi that allowed the Knight Riders to romp home with ease.

The Mumbai Indians bowlers produced a disappointing performance with the ball. None of the bowlers who rolled their arms over went at an economy rate of less than 8 runs per over. Jasprit Bumrah scalped all 3 wickets to fall for the Kolkata outfit.

Quinton De Kock’s half-century propels MI past the 150-run mark

The Mumbai Indians’ (MI) openers, Quinton De Kock and Rohit Sharma put on a 78-run partnership for the opening wicket. While Sharma struck 4 boundaries in his 30-ball stay out in the middle and scored 33, De Kock scored a stroke-filled 55 off 42 deliveries. The South African’s innings was studded with 4 fours and 3 sixes.

But then, after a good opening stand, the Mumbai Indians kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Suryakumar Yadav departed after scoring just 5 runs, while Ishan Kishan scored a 13-ball 14. West Indian Kieron Pollard scored 21 at a strike rate of 140, while Krunal Pandya contributed 12 runs, as the Mumbai Indians ended their innings with their scorecard reading 155/6.

On the bowling front, Lockie Ferguson and Prasidh Krishna scalped 2 wickets apiece. While Prasidh was on the expensive side and leaked 43 runs in the 4 overs that he bowled, Ferguson gave away 27 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Apart from Ferguson and Krishna, Sunil Narine scalped a solitary wicket. With this win, the Kolkata Knight Riders have moved to the 4th position in the points table while the Mumbai Indians are placed at the 6th spot.
