Every one loves batsmen who hit big sixes, that go sailing out of the ground or into the crowd. Such big hitting brings the most excitement. Here is the list of batsmen who have hit the most sixes in a single World Cup edition. 7. Ross Taylor(NZ) 2011 – 14 Sixes Pakistan met New Zealand in World cup 2011 and Ross Taylor destroyed Shoaib Akhtar and Abdul Razzaq in particular. He played an excellent knock making a hundred on his birthday and destroyed Shoaib Akhtar, so much that this match proved to be his last international match. Taylor is a strong player on leg side and tries to hit everything on the leg side. A wonderful player of both pace and spin Taylor is the man who steps up when others fail. 6. That included the first ever instance of 6 sixes in 6 balls of an over in international cricket. The poor victim was Dan van Bunge of the Netherlands, who was hit for 6 sixes in his over, the first such instance in ODI and international cricket. 5. He hit 14 sixes in the tournament, joint second most. Sri Lanka made it into the finals of the tournament in which Jayasuriya had a significant contribution. 4. Sourav Ganguly (IND) 2003 – 15 Sixes Sourav Ganguly hit 15 sixes in 2003 World Cup.(Photo Source: Getty Images) Indian Captain in the 2003 World Cup, Sourav Ganguly was amongst the top 5 batsmen in the tournament. He had hit 3 centuries in the tournament and also hit 15 sixes in the tournament. Ganguly who was known for his penchant of hitting spinners out of the ground, took the Kenyan spinners on in the semi-finals on his way to a century. 3. Matthew Hayden (AUS) 2007 – 18 Sixes Hayden hit 18 sixes in 2007 World Cup. (Photo Source: AFP) Matthew Hayden had hit 18 sixes on his way to 600 plus runs in the 2007 World Cup. Hayden also hit 3 centuries with 158 against the West Indies being his highest. The big and strong built helped Hayden to hit the ball through the line with strong forearms and a heavy bat providing the power to the ball. He was one of the primary reasons, Australia carried on their winning streak from the 2003 World Cup and won every match including the championship in the 2007. 2. AB de Villiers (SA) 2015 – 20* Sixes AB de Villiers has hit 20 sixes in this 2015 World Cup so far. He hit 8 sixes in his 162* against West Indies and has been consistent in hitting sixes. He also hit 4 sixes in his 99 against UAE recently. 1. Chris Gayle (WI) 2015 – 26 Sixes Gayle hit 26 sixes in 2015 World Cup.(Photo Source: Getty Images) Chris Gayle ended his 2015 World Cup with 26 sixes including the 8 against New Zealand in the QF loss. He was unfit for most of the tournament, but that didn’t stop him from making 215 against Zimbabwe which included a world record equalling 16 sixes. *All the stats updated till 21 March 2015.
