Michael Carberry to undergo tests for life-threatening illness
England batsman Michael Carberry is set to undergo tests this week over the condition that was caused six years ago due to life-threatening blood clots that was formed in one of his lungs. Carberry had felt sick last week that kept him out of Hampshire’s current County Championship match against Warwickshire as his county side are unwilling to take any chances with his health.
According to ESPNCricinfo, the Hampshire first-team coach Dale Benkenstein said, “He has had a problem that has not cleared up in the way we had hoped so his going to have some tests done. We are hoping to have him back for the T20 matches later in the week but in view of what has happened to him in the past we do not want to take any risks with him. It is a little bit worrying but hopefully the tests will show that everything is fine.”
Carberry has been under medication to control the condition, which emerged after he had suffered attacks of breathlessness while fielding and batting. He was diagnosed with two blood clots on a lung in November 2010 and did not play again until July of the following year.
Such illnesses are potentially career ending sometimes and we hope that Carberry recovers to full fitness in coming days. An example of it is England’s rising star James Taylor whose career was brought to a shocking halt after he was diagnosed with a heart ailment which barred him from taking part in any activity which could take a toll on his body. The 26-year-old Taylor announced immediate retirement from cricket is currently undergoing treatment for the illness.
