Ambati Rayudu has made a come back into the Indian team in the ongoing Asia Cup and is trying to seal his spot for the World Cup. He will be playing against Pakistan on his birthday and will be keen to make a match-winning contribution for his team. Meanwhile, his ex-teammate in the IPL Mitchell McClenaghan has wished the cricketer on his special day and also revealed a hilarious realization.

Rayudu is definitely a special batsman and many are perplexed over how he stayed out of the Indian team for so many years. But a superb IPL season earlier this year for the Chennai Super Kings brought him back in the contention. He is making it count in the Asia Cup at the moment and will be interesting to see if the talented batsman remains in selectors’ plans for World Cup.

Mitch recalls Rayudu’s gift

Mitchell McClenaghan and Ambati Rayudu played for Mumbai Indians for a long time and are known to be good friends. The latter had once gifted the Kiwi cricketer his bat and now McClenaghan has realised that only taking the willow from Rayudu is not enough. One has to be very much skilled to become a batsman like him.

In his hilarious wish for the birthday boy, the fast bowler wrote, “Happy birthday @RayuduAmbati – what I have realised since you gifted me a bat was that it’s not the bat that makes a good batsman it’s the skill of the batsman.”

There is no doubt that Rayudu is a supremely talented batsman and his career proves it as well. He is only the third Indian batsman to average over 50 after scoring more than 1000 runs in his ODI career. So far, he has amassed 1159 runs in 37 matches at an amazing average of 50.39 and is looking good to score even more in the near future with the form he is in.

Here’s McClenaghan’s wish:
