MS Dhoni will perhaps go down in history as the captain who really started the winning culture in Team India. While his predecessors had sowed the seeds, it was Dhoni who really made India believe that they can win at any venue, against any opposition and in any format. And his unparalleled record as captain is a testament of that.

Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India achieved unprecedented success all across the world. The former India skipper is the most decorated skipper the country has ever witnessed. Under him, India won series all across the globe and made it to the top of the ICC Test rankings for the first time in 2009. He also led India to titles in the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy.

During his captaincy tenure which spanned for nearly a decade, Dhoni enjoyed some really unforgettable moments. No surprises then that it would not be easy to pick a handful of moments as favourites. However, the man himself has revealed the two victories or rather moments that are closest to his heart.

MS Dhoni reveals his closest moments:

During a promotional event in Mumbai on Wednesday, MS Dhoni revealed the two moments that he considers closest to his heart. The 38-year old picked the reception his team received after its triumph in the 2007 World T20 and the support the team received at the Wankhede Stadium during the final of the 2011 World Cup in Mumbai.

After winning the T20 World Cup against all the odds, Team India players were given a rousing reception in Mumbai. The players had enjoyed an open bus ride as fans came in huge numbers to cheer for their heroes. Recalling the moment, Dhoni said he was delighted to see a smile on everyone’s face during the ride.

“There are two incidents I would like to mention over here. So after the 2007 (T20) World Cup, we came back to India and had an open bus ride and we were standing at the Marine Drive (in Mumbai). It was jam-packed all around and people had come out of their cars,” Dhoni was quoted by News18.

“So, I felt good after seeing the smile on everyone’s face. Because, there could have been so many people in the crowd, who might have missed their flights, perhaps they were going for important work. The kind of reception, we got, the entire Marine Drive was full from one end to other,” he added.

Recalling the other moment, he listed was the chants of “Vande Mataram” by the fans when India was close to victory in the 2011 World Cup final. Dhoni had led from the very front in the final, scoring an unbeaten 91 to take the team home in a thrilling final against Sri Lanka.

“And the second instance I would say the 2011 World Cup final, in that match when 15-20 runs were required, the way all the spectators started chanting Vande Mataram’ at the Wankhede Stadium.

“These are two moments, I think, it will be very difficult to replicate them. Those are the two moments that are very close to my heart,” said Dhoni.
