The newest member in Ajinkya Rahane's family

Ajinkya Rahane hasn’t had the most auspicious time lately in his cricketing career, at least. He wasn’t included in the Indian limited-overs squad that is scheduled to play a T20I and ODI series, starting today. He made his debut way back in 2011 but has somehow found it difficult to stay put in his position despite racking up runs at a decent rate. In 90 ODIs, the right-hander has 24 half-centuries, which is a testament to his consistency.

His last series was versus South Africa earlier this year. In the first ODI of the series, he scored a superlative fifty, coming in the middle-order and won his team the match. Most importantly, he accompanied Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper in the match-winning partnership. However, he couldn’t quite replicate the form in the subsequent matches in the Rainbow Nation.

His next stint was in the IPL where he captained the Rajasthan Royals. The 30-year old wasn’t supposed to be the skipper, however, owing to the suspension of their initially appointed captain in Steve Smith, he had to shoulder the mantle. He did reasonably well and took his team to the playoffs after getting pushed back to a significant extent because of a string of defeats.

His own form with the willow was indifferent. He either perished cheaply or succumbed after doing the hard yards. He could muster only one fifty in the entire 15 matches versus the Sunrisers Hyderabad and to his despair, it turned out to be on a losing cause. He remained not out and yet couldn’t shepherd the Royals to victory, a knock which was severely criticized by the cricketing fraternity.

For the time being, Rahane would be hoping to get selected in the Test squad in England. Amidst the gloomy phase, he also had something to cheer for. He is now the owner of a  Mercedes GLS, the luxurious car which was launched back in May 2016. Recently, a fan-page of Rahane posted a picture where the cricketer can be seen posing with his wife Radhika Dhopavkar with the car behind them.
