The dastardly terror attack on a convoy of soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday that martyred over 40 jawans has left the country in a deep shock. The incident, which saw a vehicle packed with explosives ram into a CRPF bus on the Srinagar-Jammu highway in Lethpora town, is the deadliest peacetime attacks on the Indian forces. Several voices have spoken out over the matter across the country and among them are cricketers as well.

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir, who is known for his forthright views on issues and also a die-hard fan of the Indian Army, also spoke his heart out in the wake of the attack. The 37-year-old former cricketer, who recently said that he wanted to be in the army more than in cricket, has always been vocal against terror attacks and even has come forward to support children of martyrs.

A big attack since Pathankot and Uri

After the Pulwama attack too, he was no different and vented his anger saying “enough is enough” and emphasizing that talks are not going to find a solution to the terror attacks. He said the next conversation can only be on the battlefield. The Pulwama attack is the third big terror attack on the armed forces in the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi after those in Pathankot and Uri in 2016.

Gautam Gambhir retired from all forms of cricket in December when he played his last competitive game in the Ranji Trophy and hit a hundred against Andhra in his farewell match. With over 10,000 runs in international cricket and 20 centuries, Gambhir has been the member of two of India’s world-title winning squads (World Twenty20 in 2007 and ICC World Cup in 2011).

He played vital knocks in the finals of both tournaments. Gambhir played his last international game in 2016 when he represented India in a Test against England at home.
