Pakistan vs Australia: Visitors include Peter Siddle in T20I squad

Australian fast bowler Peter Siddle recently made a comeback to the Test squad and has done reasonably well. It has now been learned that the Victorian has been drafted in to play the T20I format as well. Australia are currently playing the two-match Test series against Pakistan and the second match is currently underway at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. After the completion of the red-ball fixtures, the visiting team is scheduled to play a one-off T20I against hosts UAE and a three-match T20I series against Sarfraz Ahmed’s men. The decision to include Siddle has been prompted by Mitchell Starc’s hamstring injury on the second day’s play as per reports in Cricbuzz. However, batsman Aaron Finch doesn’t seem concerned by his injury “It’s just a bit of management of Mitch. Obviously, the conditions are pretty hot, so trying to look after the fast bowler. As far as I know, he is (okay). He bowled with enough pace today,” Finch mentioned after the day’s play. Siddle drafted in after eight years Starc could only bowl four overs in Pakistan’s second innings and didn’t come back in the final session of the day. The left-armer made his comeback to the national team after recovering from a tibial bone stress fracture, which he suffered during Australia’s tour of South Africa earlier this year. He also missed the Indian Premier League owing to the injury. Siddle, on the other hand, made his T20I debut way back in February 2009 against New Zealand in Sydney. In the next year, he played his last match in the shortest format against Sri Lanka in Perth in 2010. The fortunes have certainly favoured Siddle in the last few days and he would be looking to make it count. Moreover, with Australia suffering from a number of injury concerns, the 33-year-old can well and truly be a part of the national squad for the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales.
