Ramiz Raja points out a flaw in Virat Kohli's batting technique
Seeing Kohli's struggle in the international circuit, former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja has pointed out a flaw in the Indian skipper's technique.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli is arguably the best batsman of the modern era. However, for the past one year, the right-hander isnât enjoying much success with the willow. Kohliâs last century came against Bangladesh in November 2019 and since then, the skipper is still searching for his 71st international hundred. Since November 2019, Virat has featured in as many as 44 innings scoring 1,646 runs at an average of 43.31, and registered 17 half-centuries.
Seeing Kohliâs struggle in the international circuit, former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja has pointed out a flaw in the Indian skipperâs technique. Raja believes that Virat shouldnât play cross the line breaking his wrist, instead, he should play straight. However, the commentator isnât much concerned about Kohli as he is confident that the batting maestro knows what to do and how to improve.
âWhat I have seen in his batting of late, he has been playing cross the line towards the leg side, breaking his wrist. If he maintains his position and plays straight and then plays his flicks, then it wonât be a problem anymore. However, he knows what he needs to do. So, there is nothing to worry about,â Raja said on India News Sports.
âSometimes you think much and put yourself under pressure of not getting runs or centuries. As long as he plays the first 20-25 over straight and doesnât break his wrist very much, he can succeed in this [WTC Final] Test match,â he added.
Further in the interaction, Raja opined on the final of the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship, scheduled from June 18 to June 22 at Southampton between India and New Zealand. The Pakistan veteran believes that the format adopted by the International Cricket Council isnât the right way to host the league. Raja wants ICC to play the World Test Championship in an exclusive six-month window where no other format is played.
The tournament has become interesting just because India is in the final: Ramiz Raja
âI think the World Test Championship should have been conducted in a completely different window. A six-month window during which teams could have played against each other. Other formats should not have been conducted in this window, because if you are keen to uplift Test cricket, this type of window has to be created,â Ramiz Raja said.
There is a lot of buzz regarding the final of the World Test Championship as the cricket fraternity seems divided regarding who will emerge as the Test Champion between India and New Zealand. The 58-year-old credited India for creating hype around WTC.
âThe span of two years is quite long and people might forget who played against whom. The tournament has become interesting just because India is in the final. Had it been some other team playing New Zealand, there wouldnât have been that much interest,â he signed off.
