The Day three of the fifth round of the Ranji Trophy 2016-17 witnessed teams getting bundled out for cheap scores at most of the venues. Assam, who folded up Saurashtra for just 153 the previous day, were restricted to just 171 runs by the end of the day in response. Jaydev Unadkat’s all-round show of 46* with the bat and a six-wicket haul was the only notable performance in the match apart from Arup Das’ 7 wicket haul on the day one.

Railways could manage only 160 on the scoreboard after ending the day on rather comfortable 78/3. Vijay Gohil was the standout performer with the ball, taking 5/64. Mumbai skipper Aditya tare then decided to make the railways bat again and follow on. The scenario in the second innings looks bit healthy for the batting side as they ended at 135/4. Railways really need to put up a sturdy batting show to save the match which looks completely in the favour of the defending champions right now.

Another poor team performance was witnessed at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Hyderabad where Uttar Pradesh were shot out for just 95 runs in the second innings, courtesy Siddharth Kaul’s 6/27. The stunning show by Kaul meant Punjab set themselves in a match-winning position needing only a meager 112 runs to win. A win on the last day looks more than assured as they finished at 61/2, needing just 51 runs to win.
