Gautam Gambhir, with a heavy heart, announced his retirement from all forms of the game on Tuesday in the video posted on his official Facebook page. Ever since then, #ThankyouGambhir is trending on social media and all the former and current Indian cricketers hailed him for serving the country close to two decades. Meanwhile, Ravi Ashwin has also joined the list and has deemed Gambhir as an inspiration to him and many others.

Gambhir and Ashwin shared the Indian dressing room for many years as both were the part of the World Cup winning squad in 2011. Though the latter was just blossoming in his career and didn’t play many games in the competition, the 2011 ODI squad was a special group with every player caring for the other.

Gauti- The Fighter

Ravi Ashwin, in his tweet, for Gautam Gambhir was all praise of the latter and hoped for an even better future for him in the second innings of his life. He also called the 37-year-old as one of the best players India has ever witnessed and also called him the fighter.

“One of Indias best has bid farewell to the game, @GautamGambhir you have been inspirational to me and many others over the years and now I am sure is the beginning of even better things from you. #gautithefighter #GautamGambhirRetires,” his tweet read.

As far as the off-spinner is concerned, Ashwin is currently in Australia and gearing up for the first Test match against the home side in Adelaide. He has been included in the 12-man squad and is certain to play the game with the lone spinner in the side. Ash couldn’t do well in England after starting the series on a high and would be hoping to go all the way this time around. The series opener will commence on Thursday at the Adelaide Oval.
