Ravichandran Ashwin wants to bat at no.4 in Tests

Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is at his top form with both bat and ball for the last few months. The Chennai-born cricketer is considered to be one of the best spinners in the current cricketing world. Ashwin’s 10-for in the first Test match of the three-match Test series against New Zealand helped India seal a win. In the course of the match, Ashwin also became the second fastest bowler to 200 Test wickets, just behind Australia’s Clarrie Grimmett. In the recently concluded Test series against West Indies, he scored 2 centuries to go with his scalps with the ball in hand. He was also awarded as the player of that series. Batting up the order at no.6 helped the no.1 all-rounder in Tests to have enough runs under his belt. When asked about his batting position, he said that he would actually love to bat at no.4 even though it is not realistically possible. However, he seems to believe in the strategy of aiming high to achieve more success. “I want to bat at number 4, I know it is not realistically possible, but if I will not think big, then my career will not grow.” Also Read – When Abdul Razzaq rated Ahmed Shehzad over Sachin Tendulkar Even though he might not bat at no.4, the former Tamil Nadu opening batsman’s hunger for batting up the order is a positive sign as far as Indians are concerned, as it depicts that he is eager to improve not just with the ball, but also with the bat. Earlier, Virat Kohli was quoted speaking about the importance of runs from the lower middle order and the tailenders and that is exactly what the value Ravindra Jadeja and Ashwin bring to the side. “All the sides that are doing well around the world have strong lower-middle orders. The tailenders also contribute. That’s one area that we have improved and we need to keep working on because those 30-40 extra runs could prove crucial,” said Kohli.
