The selection committee led by MSK Prasad will soon meet to select the Test squad for the two-match series against Windies. The first Test is scheduled to begin on October 4 in Rajkot only six days after India play the final of the ongoing Asia Cup. During England series, there was a lot of deliberation over Rohit Sharma’s place in the side and many felt that he should’ve been picked. However, India’s limited-overs opener is set to be ignored once again for the upcoming series.

According to the reports in the Indian Express, the selectors are in no mood to include Rohit Sharma in the team who is currently leading the Men in Blue in the Asia Cup. Even Shikhar Dhawan is set to be dropped and it seems they will pick the squad with the Australia tour in mind. It will also be interesting to see if the likes of Ravi Ashwin and Ishant Sharma will be back with full fitness as both of them were injured during the fifth Test against England.

Rohit last played in Tests in January earlier this year against South Africa and failed miserably in demanding conditions. He might have to contend with the limited-overs batting for the rest of his career now.

Rohit’s form in the Asia Cup

There was never a doubt about Rohit Sharma in the ODIs and T20Is and he proved his worth to the team yet again. Leading from the front, the 31-year-old has smashed a couple of half-centuries and a century after failing in the tournament’s first game against Hong Kong. He was rested against Afghanistan and will be fresh again now to lead Team India in the final against Bangladesh on Friday.

His presence at the top of the order along with Shikhar Dhawan in the team is extremely important for India in ODIs. Both of them are undoubtedly one of the best pairs in world cricket and are known to pummel the best of the bowling attacks on any given day.
