Team India is scheduled to play the final of the ongoing Asia Cup against Bangladesh on Friday and soon will be taking the field against Windies in the two-match Test series. The first Test is set to be played in Rajkot from October 4 and the selectors will select the team for the same soon. However, Shikhar Dhawan is set to be dropped from the side after a poor series against England in their own backyard.

According to the reports in Indian Express, the 32-year-old will make way for Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal who have been knocking the doors of the national side since last year now. Though Dhawan has found form in the Asia Cup, his tendency to fail abroad might cost him his Test career with the better players waiting in the wings. Shaw was in the squad in England as well but Team India gave more opportunities to Dhawan only for him to fail.

This might also be the curtains for Dhawan in Tests after constantly failing on overseas tours. In England, he managed to score only 162 runs in eight innings at a mediocre average of 20.25.

Shaw likely to debut

Prithvi Shaw is the front-runner to make his debut for the first Test as he has been plundering runs in the domestic circuit and for India A side as well. KL Rahul will get another chance it seems after the century he smashed at The Oval in the last Test. Mayank Agarwal will also finally get a maiden national call-up which he deserved a long ago. However, it still remains to be seen if there is a place for him in the team with Shaw getting a nod over him at the top of the order.

Both Shaw and Agarwal have been selected in the Board President’s XI squad which will play a two-day practice game against the touring side starting from Saturday. Hanuma Vihari is also the part of the team and in all likelihood, he will keep his place in the playing XI also after scoring a half-century on debut.
