India recently ended their stint on English soil with their 1-4 drubbing against Joe Root and Co. In four out of the five matches, they had the chance of getting their opponents by the scruff of their necks, but they couldn’t capitalise on the chances. Ravichandran Ashwin bowled well in the first match but flattered to deceive thereafter and his hip injury didn’t help him either.

Ravindra Jadeja played the final Test at Kennington Oval in London and did well with both bat and ball. Kuldeep Yadav, who played in the Test at Lord’s was excluded for the final two Tests and he returned India and played in India ‘A’s unofficial Test series against Australia ‘A’. In the meantime, MSK Prasad, the chief selector, reckons that the trio has the ability to perform in different conditions.

“I have no doubt in the abilities of Ashwin and Jadeja. Kuldeep also is in pipeline and had a good time with India A team against Australia A. I am sure all of them can deliver in any conditions,” Prasad was quoted as saying in The Times of India (TOI).

Prasad’s message for out-of-form batsmen

Murali Vijay has been a dependable figure in India’s Test lineup for quite a while, but he couldn’t get the measure of the conditions and the bowlers in the first two Tests and subsequently was dropped from the squad. Nevertheless, he struck a deal with Essex and scored a half-century followed by his maiden ton in English county, which helped his team trump Nottinghamshire.

Prasad also believes that first-class is the solution for a batsman to regain form. “I always believe that whenever a player is not among runs he needs to go back to first-class cricket to regain his form be it Ranji Trophy or a County stint,” he added.
