Team India is at the receiving end of all the criticism since losing the Southampton Test. The batting line-up, especially, has come under the scanner for their failures. Apart from Virat Kohli and to some extent Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, none of the other batsmen have crossed the 50-run mark even once in this series. Maybe this is the reason that the former India skipper Mohammad Azharuddin has backed Rohit Sharma to be included in the Indian Test side for the upcoming Australia tour.

Rohit has been an integral part of the limited-overs Indian side but he is yet to seal his spot in the Test team. Despite showing some exceptional form in the ODIs and T20Is in England, he wasn’t included in the Test squad by the selectors which had left his fans and Rohit himself unamused. He was given a chance in the first two Tests against South Africa earlier this year and he had failed miserably which led to the batsman being dropped.

Will Rohit be picked for Australia tour?

Mohammad Azharuddin, while speaking to India Today, felt that Rohit could’ve been tested during the ongoing Test series in England with the other batsmen failing to deliver. But he regretted the fact that the talented batsman was completely ignored by the selectors.

“I think he should be included if the batsmen are failing. What I feel is Rohit should’ve been part of the team already as he had scored a couple of centuries in England conditions and was in form. If the players would’ve shuffled their positions, maybe he could’ve got the opportunity but he is the not in the team in the first place,” Azhar said.

However, when stressed about whether India’s limited-overs vice-captain has any chance of making a comeback to the Test team, Azhar was positive. He felt that the selectors will pick him for the Australia tour. “Definitely, Rohit will be selected in the Test team for Australia tour,” he added.

India’s Australia tour is all set to commence on November 21 where they will play three T20Is, four Tests and three One-Day Internationals.
