Bangladesh cricketer Sabbir Rahman who is famous for making controversial statements has landed in another big trouble. Rahman has been found guilty of an incursion against a spectator during a game while playing for the Rajshahi Division. The incident happened when spectators criticized Rahman for getting out on a duck, the crowd hurled offensive words that left the Bangladeshi batsman fuming.

After the incident, Sabbir took the permission of the on-field umpires and went to the spectator who hurled offensive words at him. The 26-year-old assaulted the man after calling him behind the sightscreen. After the match, he also assaulted the match referee when he went to talk to him about the incident. This is not the first time that Sabbir has invited a controversy, earlier in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), he assaulted a woman and had to pay a huge fine of 13 lac BDT.

Word from the BCB

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced that a decision will be taken on the batsman’s future after the incident. The verdict is finally out on the first day of the year, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced that Sabbir has been stripped of the national contract, fined Tk 20 lakh and banned from domestic cricket for six months. According to the BCB President, Nazmul Hasan Papon the penalty can be minimized and can be extended as well.

“Our discipline committee has already taken the decision about Sabbir. The hearing has been done, we have got the report from the match referee too. Sabbir will not be in our national contract anymore. He is also fined Tk 20 lakh. He can’t also play in domestic cricket for 6 months. That means, he can’t play in the premier league too. Therefore, he will face a big financial crisis,” Papon said.

The Bangladesh batsman was going through a crucial phase in his career, he had an opportunity to cement his place in the lineup but indiscipline could well prove to be the reason for his downfall.

“We are still not saying that it is our final decision. The proposal just came today. The discipline committee also mentioned that this is the last chance for Sabbir. We will finalize our decision in the board meeting. There is no chance of minimizing the above-mentioned penalties. There is no doubt that he has to face these punishments. The board will announce if the punishments get increased,” he further added.
