Salman Butt was deemed to be one of the brightest talents in Pakistan cricket when he first forayed into international cricket back in 2003. However, he got himself tangled in the infamous spot-fixing scandal in the national team’s Test match against England at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in 2010. He was thereafter slapped with a ten-year ban by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

However, his suspension was lifted in September 2015 after which he returned to Pakistan’s domestic cricket after a gap of five years. Recently, the 33-year-old lashed out at the selectors, mentioning that he has constantly been overlooked by the selectors of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) despite his impressive performances in the domestic T20 event.

I am suffering because of the mistakes made by others

“I have been the second highest run scorer in domestic T20 in the past couple of season but still ignored by the PSL franchises. I have not been given an opportunity to represent Pakistan even though I have served my punishment and completed my rehabilitation process,” Butt was quoted as saying in The Express Tribune.

Butt also remarked that Pakistan chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq made promises to him. “I was not involved in PSL spot-fixing scandal. It is disappointing to see that I am suffering because of the mistakes made by others. The selection committee is consistently ignoring me. Chief Selector Inzamam promised that he will give me a chance in the Pakistan-A side but that is yet to materialise,” he added.

The Lahore-born batsman is currently playing in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy where he is representing the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) in their match against Karachi Whites in Karachi. He is the captain of the team but hasn’t been able to perform thus far. In the first innings, he perished to 19-year-old Mohammad Umar for a six-ball duck.
