Veteran South African cricketer AB de Villiers has predicted selection conundrums for the team management ahead of the India series. South Africa is all set to host India for 3 Tests, 6 ODIs, and 3 T20Is. Ahead of the Test series, the team will have a tough task in picking up their best possible eleven for the match.

These selection conundrums are bound to rise following the return of the big names. In the previous fixture against Zimbabwe, which Proteas won handsomely, the issues seemed sorted since Dale Steyn and Faf du Plessis were injured. However, if they make a comeback, it would be hard to accommodate several big names including AB de Villiers.

In the recent times, when AB was out of action, Temba Bavuma took his place in the side. Now, AB is back and Temba is also performing. This creates the big headache for the South African side.

“There are definitely selection headaches coming their way. If Dale is fit and Faf comes back … I don’t know. It’s tough to say. All the guys seem to be in good form. Luckily it’s not my issue … we’ll see what happens,” quoted AB de Villiers.

Best XI will take the field against India

Commenting further on the same note, AB de Villiers remarked that such selection conundrums is good for South African cricket. With all players being in good form, this headache is a good one to have. He, however, assured that the best possible eleven will be taking the field in the first Test against India. The first Test of India’s tour of South Africa will be played on January 5.

“We’re in a really good position as a cricket team at the moment with guys knocking on the door. Those who aren’t playing all seem to be in good form as well and have scored runs and taken wickets. We’ll see what happens and take it one day at a time. I know that the guys will get the best XI on the field against India for the first Test,” the former skipper mentioned.
