Shahid Afridi, the legendary Pakistan all-rounder, hung his boots from international cricket after playing for World XI in their match against the Windies in a charity match at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. Ever since he has played a number of T20 tournaments around the globe. The 38-year-old is now set to play for Multan Sultans in the upcoming edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The Khyber Agency-born cricketer played the first two seasons for Peshawar Zalmi after which he moved to Karachi Kings last seasons. Nevertheless, he missed quite a few matches owing to a knee injury. The veteran would want to put his best foot forward for Multan Sultans after having a decent stint with Comilla Victorians in the sixth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Afridi makes a pick

Prior to the upcoming PSL, he featured in an exclusive interview with the renowned Pakistani journalist in Zainab Abbas for Cricingif. During the interaction, he was asked to choose one between Gautam Gambhir, the former Indian batsman who retired last year in December and Sarfraz Nawaz, who was a fast-bowling all-rounder and whose career spanned 15 years from 1969 to 1984.

Afridi put on his thinking cap and answered with Gambhir’s name. During their playing days, the two cricketers had often been involved in on-field altercations and Afridi taking his name over the Pakistan legend, would’ve come as a surprise to many cricket fanatics. Nawaz, on the other hand, used to be one of the most effective players of his generation and won games for his national team.

He made his international debut in a Test match against England in Karachi and went on to ply his trade in 55 Tests in which he scored 1045 runs and picked up 177 wickets. Nawaz also had the privilege of playing in 45 ODIs for his country. The Lahore, Punjab-born last represented Pakistan in an ODI against New Zealand in Peshawar back on November 12, 1984.
