Legendary Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi has pulled out from a meeting scheduled by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for 14th September in the capital city of Lahore. According to reports, the power hitter refused to attend the meeting during a phone call with PCB Chairman Najam Sethi.

Background:

The former skipper will be seen in the Afghanistan Cricket League that starts from September 11. He is the only player from Pakistan who will be participating in the tournament. Afridi is now in England and is playing the NatWest T20 Blast. The prolific all-rounder is representing Hamshire in the tournament.

Previously, Najam Sethi had also offered a farewell ceremony for Shahid Afridi which the player refused due to personal commitments. He was offered the respect in a meeting in Dubai on April 23rd. Afridi’s last T20 match for Pakistan roots back to 2016 during the World T20 in India. Pakistan went out early from the tournament which was not what Afridi wanted his farewell to be. Afridi had demanded a proper farewell match after that which he could not get.

In December 2016, Afridi mentioned in an interview with Geo.tv that he has given up on the idea of having a proper farewell. He stated that he had already featured in his last match and does not want a farewell anymore.

Afridi has been a part of 98 T20 matches in his career scoring 2362 runs from those. He also has 97 T20 wickets to his name and keeps himself involved in the T20 leagues around the world. Afridi recently slammed a 42 ball century for his NatWest T20 Blast side Hampshire as they took on Derbyshire. The leading six hitter in international cricket, Afridi slammed 7 sixes and 10 fours in the process. He finally fell for a score of 101 runs in 43 balls which rode Hamshire to a massive total of 249 for 8 in their 20 overs.
