The Board of Control for Cricket in India faced constant criticism after using a hair dryer and sponge to dry the surface at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad after constant rain interruptions.

After persistent rain on Sunday, May 28, the much-awaited final between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans went into IPL's first-ever final reserve day.

The state looked set for the final, to begin with, stars weaving their magic before the first ball. MS Dhoni and Co. won the toss and opted to field first. Gujarat posted a massive 214 on the board just before the rain gods showed their presence at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The rain eventually stopped, and what followed took the fans by storm. BCCI faced major criticism as groundsmen were spotted using hair dryers and sponges to dry the surface, which did not go well with the fans.

Chennai clinch record-equalling fifth title

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devin Conway gave CSK the perfect start and set a platform for the middle order to chase down the target. Just when Chennai were cruising, Noor Ahmed showed his brilliance and put on a spin bowling masterclass to pick up both the CSK openers.

Shivam Dube just was not able to find his hitting range, but Ajinkya Rahane took on the Gujarat bowlers, scoring 27 from just 13 balls at a strike rate of over 200.

With Mohit Sharma executing his yorkers to perfection, things seemed to get a little tricky for CSK, but Ravindra Jadeja smashed a six on the penultimate and a four on the final ball to help the MS Dhoni-led side win their fifth IPL title.
