In a thrilling Eliminator match at Ahmedabad on Wednesday (May 22), Rajasthan Royals (RR) emerged victorious over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by four wickets with six balls to spare.

RCB, batting first, posted a total of 172/8 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was marked by contributions from multiple players but lacked a standout performance. Virat Kohli scored 33 off 24 balls, while Rajat Patidar's brisk 34 off 22 balls provided momentum. Mahipal Lomror played a crucial cameo, adding 32 off 17 balls with a strike rate of 188.23. Avesh Khan was the pick of the bowlers for RR, claiming three wickets for 44 runs, while Ravichandran Ashwin’s economical spell yielded two wickets for just 19 runs.

Chasing a target of 173, RR started strong with Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring 45 off 30 balls, anchoring the innings early. Despite a few quick wickets, including the dismissals of Sanju Samson and Tom Kohler-Cadmore, the middle order held firm. Riyan Parag's 36 off 26 balls and a late surge from Shimron Hetmyer, who smashed 26 off 14 balls, brought RR close to the target. The finishing touch was provided by Rovman Powell, whose quickfire 16 off eight balls ensured RR's victory.

For RCB, Mohammed Siraj was the standout bowler, taking two wickets for 33 runs. Cameron Green and Lockie Ferguson contributed with one wicket each, but the bowlers couldn't stop RR's momentum.

With the dew coming in, we thought we were short with the bat: Faf du Plessis

After the game, RCB captain Faf du Plessis acknowledged that they were short of runs, particularly with the dew-affecting conditions. He praised his team for their fighting spirit throughout the season, especially after their difficult start. Du Plessis noted that they needed more runs to be competitive on what seemed like a 180-run pitch. He highlighted the challenges of batting with an extra batter in the lineup and expressed pride in his team’s effort, even though they fell short in this match.

"With the dew coming in, we thought we were short with the bat. Needed a few more runs to make it more competitive. Credit to the boys for fighting it out. If you look at naturally assessing the pitch, it looked like a 180-pitch. But we found out this season, with the one extra batter and long line-ups, it can be challenging. We knew we had to score more to challenge them. A lot of teams would have, their wheels would have fallen off after 1 from 9. But we made sure to gave our best and to come back like that - six games in a row - takes a lot of heart. We weren't special tonight in terms of pushing the extra runs," he said during the post match presentation.
