The Match 58 of IPL 2023 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants played on Saturday, May 13 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, is making headlines for the wrong reasons. During the first innings of the game, there were reports of nuts and bolts being thrown at the LSG dugout.

In a shocking revelation, LSG fielding coach and former South Africa cricketer, Jonty Rhodes, has revealed that the nuts were being thrown at the players and one even hit Prerak Mankad on the head while he was fielding at long-on.

Rhodes took to Twitter and replied to a Tweet claiming that things were being thrown at the LSG dugout by the crowd and wrote, “Not at the dugout, but at the players. They hit Prerak Mankad on the head while he was fielding at long-on. #noton”

It all happened in the penultimate over of the first innings when SRH were 173/5 after 18.4 overs. The play was halted for some time as Heinrich Klaasen, who was batting out in the middle with Abdul Samad walked towards the LSG dugout to know what was happening. Even the umpires had to intervene as Lucknow’s players and the coaching staff were displeased with the crowd’s behaviour.

Disappointed with the crowd. That's not what you want at the venue: Heinrich Klaasen

Speaking about the incident after the match ended, Klaasen said that he was disappointed with the crowd’s behaviour and added that it even broke their momentum at the end of the innings. The South African batter also expressed his displeasure over the two contentious umpiring decisions in the 19th and the 20th over respectively.

“Disappointed with the crowd. That's not what you want at the venue. Very disappointed (because) that broke our momentum. Not a great umpiring decision being made there, but it's part of the game,” Klaasen said after the match.

The incident broke SRH’s momentum as Klaasen (47 off 29) who was looking in good touch and nearing his fifty got out just two balls after the play resumed. Abdul Samad (37* off 25) also couldn’t finish on a high as SRH could only score nine runs off the last eight balls. As a result, they finished their innings on 182/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, LSG chased down the target in 19.2 overs, riding on splendid knocks by Prerak Mankad (64* off 45), Marcus Stoinis (40 off 25) and Nicholas Pooran (44* off 13).
